Job Title: Veterinary Assistant

Starting Salary: $15.00/hour Full Time.  $14.00/hour Part Time

Reports To: Veterinary Technician Team Lead/Veterinarian

 

Summary

No two days will be the same as a veterinary assistant!  You will be cross-trained in a number of different areas, charged with maintaining efficiency and clinic flow as you jump around between a variety of tasks.  Your primary role is working with other assistants, certified veterinary technicians, and veterinarians to ensure that examinations, treatments, and procedures are performed efficiently and thoroughly. If you are outgoing, friendly, and interested in learning something new about animals every day, you may be the perfect fit!

Must be able to work evenings and weekends.  Current clinic hours are Thursday-Sunday, 11AM-9PM.  Schedule changes and flexibility will occur later this year when we expand our business hours by adding days.

Main Job Duties

Assist in Clinical Care Delivery – 50%

  • Restrain dogs, cats, and exotic pets for examinations
  • Perform basic treatments and medications under supervision of Veterinarian
  • Assist Certified Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians with procedures as directed
  • Communicate with pet owners to solicit information needed for patient care
  • Assist Certified Veterinary Technicians with laboratory diagnostics as directed
  • Other duties as assigned

Clinical Operations Support – 35%

  • Clean dog and cat enclosures
  • Clean exam rooms after each patient visit
  • Preparation of surgical supplies
  • Restocking supplies and pharmacy inventory
  • Placing inventory and supply orders
  • Other duties as assigned

Administrative Support – 15%

  • Check in and register clients and patients
  • Maintain friendly and welcoming waiting room atmosphere
  • Money handling (process payments through electronic medical record system)
  • Maintain medical records
  • Ensure timely communication with referring veterinarians
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Work Experience:
